The Champions League group stage draw will take place at 4:45pm BST on Thursday 27 August in Monaco.

The draw consists of 32 clubs - 22 automatic entrants and ten play-off winners - who are split into four seeding pots.

Having finished in the Premier League’s top two in the 2014/15 season, City received automatic entry and are placed in Pot 2 along with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Porto and Arsenal.

Potential opponents from Pot 1 include: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Paris Saint Germain, Zenit St Peterburg and PSV Eindhoven.

Teams cannot play clubs from their own country in the group stage, but the Blues could face familiar opposition.

Since qualifying for their first Champions League campaign in the 2011/12 season, City have faced: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Viktoria Plzen, CSKA Moscow, Napoli, Villareal and Roma in the group stage.

On the two occasions Manuel Pellegrini’s men have progressed to the knock-out stage, they have been defeated over two legs by Barcelona. As a result, the Blues have never bettered a Round of 16 finish but will hope to do so this time around.

The group stage matchdays are:

Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 September

Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 September

Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 October

Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November

Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 November

Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 December 2015.

In addition to the first-team’s participation in the top European competition, the club’s under-19s will also compete in the UEFA Youth League.
