Jack Byrne plays a big part in win in Holland, plus news of our other youngsters out on loan.

Last weekend was one to remember for Jack Byrne as he helped SC Cambuur to a 4-1 win against Excelsior and set a new Club record in the process.

Byrne thought he had notched his first goal for the Club last weekend in the 3-1 home win against NEC Nijmegen, but that was later ruled as an own goal.

The Irish youth international definitely did score this time, in the 88th minute to give Cambuur a 3-0 lead and, in doing so, became the youngest goalscorer in the Club’s history at 19 years and 240 days old.

That capped a great performance from the Dubliner who finished with a pass completion rate of 94.6%, misplacing just one pass in the 90 minutes – the highest of all 22 starting players.

Staying in the Netherlands and Thomas Agyepong remains out of action for FC Twente with an injury while in the Eerste Divisie, Divine Naah was a 73rd minute sub for NAC Breda in their 1-0 away win against Almere City which moved them up to third in the league.

Back in England and George Evans was involved in two games over the past week.

First, Evans was named Man of the Match and scored his spot kick in Walsall’s penalty shoot-out win against Chesterfield to seal their place in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

At the weekend, George played 90 minutes in Sunday’s televised game between the Saddlers and Port Vale at the Banks’s Stadium in what was new Walsall manager Sean O’Driscoll’s first win in charge of the Midlands club.

In the Championship, Bruno Zuculini came on in the second half to shore up the midfield as Middlesbrough ended Brighton’s unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win at the Amex Stadium.

In the fourth tier of English football, Ian Lawlor played his second game of his emergency loan spell for Barnet.

Lawlor, who was brought in by Martin Allen after an injury to Jamie Stephens, ensured that his temporary side remained unbeaten when he has played with a 4-2 win at home to Crawley Town to move the Bees ten points clear of the relegation zone.

Moving to France and Seko Fofana continued his good start to life with Bastia in Ligue 1 with a 73 minute spell in the 2-0 win at home to Reims.

Meanwhile, Yaw Yeboah wasn’t in the squad as Lille drew 1-1 with Toulouse. However, there was a positive for Yeboah this past week with the Ghana U20 international being one of five players nominated for the African Young Player of the Year award.

Head South-East from France and we arrive in Italy where Olivier Ntcham is continuing his progression at Genoa. He, like Evans, was involved in two games this past week but found himself on the losing side in both games.

Ntcham played 89 minutes as Genoa suffered a shock after-extra-time defeat in the Coppa Italia against third tier opposition in the form of Alessandria.

It didn’t get any better for Olivier and his team mates at the weekend as they lost 2-0 away at Roma despite the home side playing the final 16 minutes with 10-men as Edin Dzeko was shown a straight red card.

We wrap up our round-up with a stop in Belgium and Enes Unal was an 89th minute substitute for Genk as they moved up to sixth in the table with a 3-0 home victory against Sint-Truiden.
