However, Davies stated he was disappointed with the attitude shown towards the opposition after going 2-0 up and that City will need to learn from their mistakes.
Speaking after the 3-1 win against Southampton, Davies said: “I thought we started off really well and got a couple of goals, but then I thought we were quite disrespectful of the opposition at times.
“We were slow in possession, we didn’t move the ball quickly, we didn’t switch it – all the things that we had done to have such an excellent start to the game.”
He continued: “They scored on the half time whistle and it made it a bit more of a game than it really needed to be. The lads have got to learn from that and respect the game plan, and if we do that going forward it won’t be as difficult as it was tonight.”
The game marked a landmark achievement for one of Davies’ players as Sinan Bytyqi returned from a long term knee injury in the second half and the EDS Head Coach was delighted to see the 20-year old make his comeback.
“It’s fantastic to see Sinan back on the pitch after his injury. It’s been a long layoff, but he’s been very professional – as good as anybody I know – for doing his rehab. He’s done it step-by-step, he’s been very patient with his instruction. We’re all delighted to see him back tonight.”
Tuesday’s victory against the Saints marked Davies’ first game in charge after taking over the reins from Patrick Vieira last week and he describes the opening week as ‘hectic’ with the changes and some players missing due to the FA Youth Cup fixture on Wednesday.
“It’s been quite a hectic week with Patrick (Vieira) and some of the staff leaving and some new ones coming in. It’s been really good, I’m really pleased with the new set up.
“With the Youth Cup tomorrow night, it’s been a really hectic schedule and kind of a makeshift squad in terms of some going down to Portsmouth and some here.
“It’s not a group tonight that usually play together so I’ve got that in the back of my mind, but, still, for a Manchester City team I expected a bit more than we got tonight.”
