City’s long unbeaten run was ended by Arsenal and last weekend’s surprise exit from the FA Cup added to the gloom, but the Brazilian midfielder says blips are unavoidable during a long campaign and that normal service will be resumed soon.
“Every team has moments when things don’t go well – that is the nature of the Premier League - but we will be doing our best to make sure we don’t lose any more games,” said Fernando.
“Of course it will be a very difficult game at Chelsea on Saturday but we will be doing our best to close the gap between them and us. We know a win will reduce their lead to two points and that’s what we will be looking to do.
It is important not only to win this game, but every game we have still to play this season and that’s what we’ll be aiming for, but right now our focus is only on Chelsea and achieving the result we want to return home with

“We have the players to go there and win, make no mistake about it.”
Fernando also believes that it doesn’t matter which starting XI Chelsea field adding: “If Costa or Fabregas were both missing, it would be a loss for Chelsea, but they have enough quality within their team to cope with any absentees.
“We can’t go there thinking about who might or might not be playing and have to concentrate on ourselves because we need to make sure we play to the best of our ability.
“Jose Mourinho is a very good coach – one of the best in the world - and a great tactician and I have followed his career over the years. Of course he will have a plan for this game and we must be prepared for that, but we plan to give Chelsea plenty of problems during the game as well. It won’t be easy but we can definitely win this game.
“For us, the scenario is simple – we need to just keep winning, not worry about anyone else and hope that we will finish the season at the top of the table.”
