Who needs Trip Advisor?

When you’ve got City supporters stationed across the globe, you can find your way wherever you are – as we learned on Day 12 of our pre-season tour of Australia.

I must admit, I had feared our plan to take a fan-led Twitter tour of Melbourne might fall flat when I set off at 9am this morning with just a hopeful tweet posted out asking for recommendations for the best coffee in town but I needn’t have worried…

You came through in fine style, sending me on a whirlwind social media treasure hunt across this wonderful city.

From my first port of call at a coffee shop on Degraves Street right through to a trip to the MCG’s National Sports Museum, it was a day full of local culture and wide-eyed exploration I’ll never forget.

After all, how many times in life can you say that you visited a burger joint for lunch in the name of “work”?

Every step of the way we asked for your recommendations for the very best spots Melbourne had to offer and you delivered, sending me to sample the Eureka Sky Deck for the highest vantage point in the Southern Hemisphere to Hosier Lane for incredible street art, to Old Melbourne Gaol which did for Ned Kelly and, of course, for one of the best cheeseburgers this city has to offer.

Relive our brave quest below...

Of course #cityontour is not *all* about what I ate for lunch… there wasn’t a burger in sight for the first-team squad here in Australia today.

Their day began early with a training session at our home away from home: Melbourne City’s City Football Academy.

It was a relatively light session for the boys after their exertions in their thrilling penalty shootout win over AS Roma last night but it was a special occasion for the boys to get back together with their Melbourne peers again.

Even if Joe was (probably) still expressing his belief that he should be on penalty-taking duties next season…

This evening, the boys returned to AAMI Park for a training session under the lights where a highly competitive small-sided game took place.

We were on hand to capture a goal carved out by two of our new boys, Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal who combined to score to the delight of a handful of invited guests.

After training, the boys returned home for a well-earned rest ahead of tomorrow’s player appearance morning where all kinds of fun and games are in store.

I’ll be heading to Rebel Sports store on Bourke Street where Yaya Toure and Fabian Delph will be meeting supporters – follow us on Twitter for all of the best behind-the-scenes coverage from #cityontour.

Just before I sign off, make sure you watch the video which has caused a Twitter spat between Marcos Lopes, George Evans and Angus Gunn
