The players return to begin pre-season training this week and there’s plenty to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead.

We’ve focused on five things that will hopefully make this a cracking season for everyone concerned.

Etihad Expansion

With 8,000 new seats added and the completion of a new tier in the South Stand, the Etihad will be bigger and better than ever before. With a new singing section organised by City fans for the new top tier, the atmosphere will be louder and prouder than ever before and a gate in the region of 55,000 will welcome the Blues for the visit of Chelsea on 16 August.

City Live

The now-annual MCFC curtain raiser will allow supporters to see the players up close and personal with the awards handed out for last season’s efforts and, of course, a first look at any new signings the club has made over the summer. Great music, entertainment and a chance to give the lads the perfect fillip before the action begins. Book your seat now!

Great Kompany

Vincent Kompany returned to training early in a bid to hit the ground running in August. The skipper has put himself through a gruelling schedule in order to lead City’s title challenge from the front and you can be assured he is more determined than ever to ensure last season’s failure to win silverware was no more than a blip.

He wants the title back and as ever, he will lead by example. Plus the majority of the squad will return with their batteries fully charged with the creative talents of Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and David Silva all having several weeks’ rest for the first time in a while.

Exciting emerging talent

With a year’s more experience under their belts, will Jason Denayer and Marcos Lopes challenge for first team recognition in the coming months? Both Academy graduates will have caught Manuel Pellegrini’s eye and a strong pre-season could see them challenging established first-team stars for a starting berth.

And it doesn’t end there – will youngsters such as Thierry Ambrose, Brandon Barker and Kelechi Iheanacho break through during 2015/16?

All three impressed at EDS and Academy level last term and – along with a host of talent from Patrick Vieira and Jason Wilcox’s sides – will look to impress the manager and win inclusion to the senior squad.

Summer tour

City head Down Under this week for a training camp in Australia with mouth-watering clashes against AS Roma and Real Madrid to come in the International Champions Cup, presented by Audi.

Possible duels include Kompany v Ronaldo; Silva v Isco and the possibility of two or three new faces making their debut for the Blues – it should be a fascinating trip and mcfc.co.uk will be there with the first team along with the EDS and Academy’s trip to Spain
