After nearly 20 glittering years at the top of the English game, Frank Lampard brought his time in the Premier League to a close with a goal and a Man of the Match winning performance in City’s 2-0 win over Southampton.
The 36-year old was given a standing ovation by all four sides of the Etihad Stadium when he was withdrawn after 77 minutes.
Frank was interviewed on the pitch as part of the post-match presentation where he revealed the depth of feeling he’s built up in his year at “a special club”.
He told Hugh Ferris: “I think I’ve had a lot of opportunities to talk about Chelsea, but I have turned up here at age of 36, I didn’t know what to expect, from the dressing room and the fans and living in this city, and all I can say is thank you so, so much to everybody.
“I’d like to thank the players, staff and people behind scenes and fans.
“This is a very special club and from bottom of my heart it’s been a pleasure to play for you.”
Frank showed that he still has plenty to offer in the game with another superb performance to help City sign off with six wins in a row.
He now heads Stateside for a new challenge and he told supporters on the other side of the Atlantic that he can’t wait to get started.
“I’m looking forward to it greatly,” Lampard declared.
“I want to give everything in New York in what is a great set up, part of this set up. That’s my future and I can’t wait.”
