Sergio Aguero and David Silva trained with the squad ahead of Saturday's game with both closing in on a return to first team action.

With Pablo Zabaleta and Fabian Delph also taking part in Thursday’s session, the Blues will hope to have some if not all of the quartet available for the weekend.

The three City favourites back in the swing of things will be a huge lift to Manuel Pellegrini ahead of the crucial match against the Merseysiders.

With another session on Friday, the chances of Silva and Aguero being involved on Saturday seem to be increasing - the City boss will reveal more at his pre-match press conference and Blues’ fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for good news.

Neither Silva or Kun have featured since City thrashed Newcastle 6-1 last month with both picking up injuries while on international duty.

Zabaleta has been absent for three weeks after being stretchered off against Crystal Palace and while Fabian Delph returned early from England duty, he trained as well at the CFA.

Things are certainly looking up, judging by this picture...
