Fabian Delph asserts City will not dwell on their disappointing home defeat to Liverpool.

The midfielder, who came on as a half-time substitute in the clash, admitted it was a bad day at the office for Manuel Pellegrini’s men and has urged his teammates to switch their focus to the midweek Champions League trip to Juventus.

Delph’s lively introduction was a rare positive on an otherwise painful evening for the home side. Speaking after the game, he conceded it was difficult to analyse the result, reflecting: “We just never seemed to get going.

“Fair play to Liverpool for the way they came out but we looked too clumsy.

“Obviously the new manager they’ve got has implemented a system to press high. We expected that and we knew what they were going to come with.

“We were off in the first 45 minutes; then the performance in the second half was a bit more positive - a bit more direct.”

Though Sergio Aguero’s strike just before the break proved a mere consolation, it had seemed to give the hosts hope of a comeback. Delph agreed it spurred his side on to an improved second half performance but ultimately, no points.

He added: “We know we’ve got the capabilities to get back in the game - if not turn the game around. We were always confident we could do something in the second half but it wasn’t our day and we’ve dropped points.

“We’ll put this behind us and then look to answer in the next games.

“We have a game in the Champions League next week, so we’ll be looking to get it out of our system pretty fast.”
