With Liverpool managing to avoid defeat in 12 of their 18 Premier League visits to the Etihad, City are facing a side who have a habit of making life difficult for the Blues.

Traditionally, the Reds have long been something of a bogey team for City and overall, have beaten the Blues 32 times in 82 trips to Manchester, drawing a further 22 times and losing 28.

That makes pretty grim reading with the City failing to win 54 meetings in all competitions and scoring 114 goals to the Reds’ 122.

But it’s not all bad!

City have won four out of the last five Etihad meetings, drawing the other game with Liverpool failing to win a Premier League game in East Manchester since 2008 and Manuel Pellegrini has a 100% home record in this fixture, winning both his home battles against the team then managed by Brendan Rodgers.

However, the Blues have won just one of their 16 Premier League trips to Anfield, losing 11 and drawing another four, making an overall statistic of seven City victories in 32 attempts against Liverpool.

For crumbs of comfort, City have scored in their last eight successive matches against the Reds, while both teams have scored in each of the past seven league meetings.

On an individual basis, Joe Hart will equal the most Premier League appearances against Liverpool if he plays on Saturday – currently Richard Dunne is in the box seat with 14.

Vincent Kompany has played 12 times against the Reds with Yaya Toure next with nine each.

Statistically, nobody has really excelled in this fixture when it comes to goals scored – Nicolas Anelka’s four goals remains leads the scorers list, with Sergio Aguero bagging three in six matches to date. Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure have both bagged a couple, too.

James Milner scored once for City in this fixture and played on nine occasions and in the Reds’ dramatic 3-2 Anfield win in 2014. Philippe Coutinho enjoys scoring in this fixture, too with three goals in his last four games against the Blues.

Jürgen Klopp has managed Borussia Dortmund three times against City, winning two and drawing one with two matches in the Champions League and another coming in a pre-season friendly.
