The Belgian midfielder has made a stunning impact since joining City from Wolfsburg and has bagged six goals in the last 11 starts and has just secured a second successive Etihad Player of the Month award.
But it his team-mate David Silva that has made a huge impression on De Bruyne – even though the Spaniard’s injury woes have meant they’ve only started two games together so far, with City winning both games and scoring eight goals in total.
Now, with Silva nearing a return to action, De Bruyne is hoping for a sustained run of games alongside the Spaniard Blues’ fans call ‘El Mago’.
“On the ball he is amazing,” said De Bruyne, currently in Belgium on international duty.
“He can do everything and dictate the tempo of a game from start to finish, so he’s a great player to have when you want to control of the game – I’d say that’s one of his best traits.
“He has great vision, can find anyone with a pass and it is great to have him as a team-mate. Obviously we are all looking forward to his, Samir’s return as soon as possible.”
De Bruyne has created six goals himself so far – the same as Silva – and he admits he enjoys creating chances for others as much as scoring goal.
The ability to create a chance out of nothing or pick a pass from deep is something that comes naturally to the Belgium international who made 21 assists in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg last season.
He said: “It’s an advantage, obviously and one of my main strengths is to create opportunities for my team-mates.
“Last year it went really well at Wolfsburg and I’m trying to repeat that here – it’s not as though I’m always searching for the final ball – I just do the things I feel are good for the team and when the positive statistics come back it’s obviously nice for me.
“So long as the teams wins, though, that’s all that really matters.”
