Jesus Navas is hoping his form for City will lead to a recall to the Spain squad.

Navas, who has been outstanding for the Blues in several games over the past month, hasn’t played for the national team since being left out of the squad for the World Cup in Brazil more than 18 months ago.

He has won 34 caps for Spain, but is keen to represent his country again and force his way into the squad for Euro 2016.

“I am always trying to win my place back in the national team – it’s something I am working hard to try and do, but that will only happen if I’m playing well for City,” said Navas.

I have always been very proud to play for Spain and it is an honour to be called up by your country so I have that incentive on top of wanting to do my best for City

“If I have another opportunity it would be incredible as it’s one of the greatest feelings for any footballer.”

Navas has put his recent form down to the support of the manager, team-mates and supporters and he hopes he can continue to contribute with the Blues progressing well in all competitions.

“I always give my all but to have the confidence of the coach, my team-mates and the supporters is probably part of the reason I am playing so well at the moment,” he said.

“I try my best in every game but the whole team is playing very well and are confident in what we are doing at the moment and I’m happy to be part of it.

“I’ve had the trust of the manager since I arrived, but the same can be said of my team-mates so I don’t think I’m different to anyone else in that respect.”

Of his emotional return to hometown club Sevilla, Jesus added: “Sevilla was something different – it was a very special night for me to play against them.

“It was a little bit weird if I’m honest to be playing there with another team after playing for Sevilla and calling it home and playing for those supporters for more than 10 years but it was a good experience and we got the result we needed.”
