The England winger, preparing for games against Spain and France in the coming days, has scored six goals in 15 games for the Blues so far and was at his very best in the 3-1 win in Sevilla last week.
He is also hoping take his club form into the international arena as England test themselves against two of Europe’s best nations.
“I’ve been doing okay with my club, I’m happy to be top of the Premier League and I’ve scored in a few important games as well,” said Sterling.
“Hopefully I can keep scoring for City, it’s been a good few months and hopefully it can continue.”
Sterling added that regularly playing alongside his club team-mates – or being pitted against them in training – is improving his all round game.
Going training with players of that calibre like Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Joe Hart means there’s only one thing you can do and that is improve
...Sterling #7...
“They’ve been around achieving great things for their club and country for a number of years now and I’m happy to be in a squad like that.
“Hopefully I can continue that development for City and England, too.”
Sterling admitted the games against Spain and France are the perfect platform for the Three Lions to test themselves after cruising through the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
He said: “We had a very good run in qualifying. We were unbeaten but we know this is the real challenge now and we will be playing some of Europe’s best teams.
“This is where we really get to see where we are in terms of the tournament in the summer, so hopefully we can really show what we can do and get the win against Spain.
“It’s quite a young squad and we know that, but the players that are here have been playing first-team club football for quite some time. They have now got quite a lot games under their belts and are trying to grow their experience with the national team now.
“I think it’s been a good year for the national team. We’ve obviously had some new players come in and they’ve done really well but as I said before we are a very young squad and it’s a really exciting time for England.
“Hopefully these young players - and I am one of them as well - can come together and really do our best so that we can shine for our country.
“This week will be no different. We’ll try and work hard and obviously there will be a fight for places but I’ll try and be involved against Spain on Friday and we’ll obviously try and get a result.”
