Wilfried Bony admitted he was relieved to get off and running this season after scoring twice in the 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

The Ivorian, starting only his sixth game since joining City, bagged a goal in each half to double his tally since joining the Blues last January and he is now hoping to add more in the coming weeks with a run of games likely in Sergio Aguero’s absence.

“The most important thing for me is to work hard for the team,” said the Blues’ striker. “I was maybe eight games without a goal but I just needed to work hard and I did that today, scored twice so I’m happy about that.

“We are in good form and are playing really well at the moment and we need to keep scoring goals and winning games. We have Sevilla next and then United so it’s going to be an important few days for us.”

Bony added that, despite missing Aguero, David Silva, Aleks Kolarov from the starting line-up, this victory proves the strength in depth the club has.

“That’s why City are a big club,” he said. “It’s not only about 11 players – we have players on the bench who can do the same thing or maybe more. That’s what we showed today – we need to improve, work hard and wait for the chance to perform as well as we did today. That’s why we’re all pleased with our efforts against Bournemouth.”
