As was the case for the 170th Manchester derby, City will be without Sergio Aguero, Gael Clichy, Fabian Delph, Samir Nasri and David Silva for Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
Manuel delivered this news at his pre-match press conference at the Etihad Stadium.
The City boss revealed: “The injury list is exactly the same as the last game - Clichy, Delph, Nasri, Aguero and Silva.
“Aguero is improving but he has some time more until he’s available.
“We are trying to have the best starting XI we can put out at the moment. It’s not easy, we have a lot of injuries and a lot of players are playing a lot of games.”
Pellegrini was coy when it came to naming names of youngsters who may or may not be involved in this League Cup clash.
However, the boss confirmed that he has some special young players at his disposal should he need them and shared his belief that it won’t be long until there are Academy products regularly in the team.
“We’ll see tomorrow if Kelechi will start,” he said.
“As a manager, it’s important for every club to always buy good players and then to work to develop young players who can arrive into the first-team.
“For our club it’s important to bring young players from the academy to the first-team.
“It’s not just a case of using young players if you don’t think they have a future with the club.
“The Capital One Cup an important competition for the club.
“When you play a final at Wembley with 90,000 people it’s an important cup. We must try to continue.”
Although many pundits were disappointed by the weekend’s Manchester derby, Gary Neville wrote in his Telegraph column that the first 45 minutes were the most entertaining he has seen in the Premier League so far this season.
When asked about this assertion, Manuel respectfully disagreed.
He added: “I don’t agree with that comment – maybe it was a tactical game. I thought we played better second half. Second half we lost the ball too often to make chances to score.
“It’s important to always be a balanced team who plays both attacking and defensive football well.”
City continue their Premier League campaign as they play Norwich this Sat 31st Oct at 3pm. Make sure you don’t miss out on another memorable game and buy your tickets now.
