The Belgian showed glimpses of his quality after coming on as a first-half sub with one through ball in particular that set Jesus Navas a clear a taste of things to come.
With his first game under his belt, he is looking forward to playing more matches in the coming weeks and understanding better how his team-mates play.
“It’s always nice to win the game, especially when you score so close to the end,” said De Bruyne.
“I think the first half was very difficult but the second half was better; we put more pressure on them and we got a little bit of luck when the keeper let the ball go, but it’s a big win for us.
“The difference is not that big between England and Germany - the teams play very good football and it is difficult to win playing away. At the end of the season, if you win the title, nobody will talk about individual games like this, but these games help you get to where you need to be. It’s still early in the season, but to get a win in this manner is pleasing.

“I’ve just arrived here so for it’s a little bit difficult – I need to get to know the players but I’m happy with the way it went today.”
Of his 24th-minute introduction, he added: “It wasn’t an ideal way to come into the game. It took me about 10 or 15 minutes to find my rhythm but after that it was better and I think in a couple of weeks when I’m settled in and have played a few games things will get better again.”
