City's Manuel Pellegrini has won the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month award for August.

The Chilean guided his side to a flawless four successive wins in the month, during which the Blues scored 10 goals and conceded none.

Pellegrini, picking up the award for the fourth time, is delighted at not only the cold statistics, but also the stylish manner in which the victories have been achieved.

He said of the award: “It’s very good. It means the team is doing things the way I want; I think we finished very well last season so it was important to start the way we did.

“The highlight was the way we played. It’s important to continue the style of football; the team won the four games in the way I like to play.

“The key maybe was linking with the other season. Of course, it’s not good for this team not to win anything last season so I made sure the players understood that and had a reaction.

“When you don’t win titles, it presents an important challenge. It happens to a lot of teams. When you win, you think you must continue in the same way, but mentally it’s not the same. Now we are mentally strong.”

City face a tough task to maintain the perfect start when they visit second-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Many pundits are making Pellegrini’s men hot favourites to retain the title, but the shrewd boss believes such talk is premature.

He stated: “We are very pleased with the start but we are not thinking about what we are going to do at the end of the season.

“All our minds must be focused on the next game, and the next game is Crystal Palace. If we continue playing the same way, maybe we can win.

“If we think that because we won the last four games we are going to win the next one, we are going to make a big mistake.”
