Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has sparked City striker Sergio Aguero into top form during the international break.

The deadly Argentinian duo have just one domestic league goal between them from a combined six games so far – a relatively low return by their incredible standards.

This international break has seen normal service resume, with Aguero scoring three and making four and Messi scoring three in the games against Bolivia and Mexico.

Kun didn’t take long to make an impact in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Mexico, emerging from the substitutes’ bench in place of Carlos Tevez after 76 minutes and halving the 2-0 deficit nine minutes later.

Four minutes later, with 60 seconds of normal time remaining, Kun produced an incredible assist for his great friend Messi to level things up in front of 82,000 fans in Arlington, Texas.

It’s just the latest episode in the recurring tale of the telepathic connection shared by Lionel and Sergio in the sky blue and white shirt.

This story began a decade ago when the pair fired the Albiceleste to the u20 World Cup in the Netherlands and it was a special connection observed close-hand by leading South American football journalist, Tim Vickery.

In a BBC column, Vickery remembered: “The pair shared a room during the 2005 World Youth Cup in Holland.

“They struck up a friendship, and their understanding translates to the football field.

“The beauty of the combination with Aguero is that it has the potential to outdo anything Messi has ever had with his club.

“Not with Samuel Eto’o, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or David Villa has Messi combined as naturally as he does with Aguero.”

City fans will hope that Aguero continues that electric form against Crystal Palace this weekend as boss Manuel Pellegrini’s men aim to maintain their 100 per cent start.

That Premier League clash is followed closely by the Champions League opener against Juventus on Tuesday.

With Kun fit and firing, it’ll take something special to halt the irresistible momentum City have built up in the early weeks of the season.
