Patrick Roberts has promised to give the City fans plenty to shout about when he eventually makes his first-team debut.

The young England winger showed why City were so keen to bring him to the Etihad with a superb display for the Blues’ Under-19s as they beat Juventus 4-1 in the Uefa Youth League, setting up two goals and scoring a sublime solo effort himself in a man-of-the-match display that saw the frustrated Italians reduced to nine men.

After appearing on the bench several times for City already this season, he is hoping to get the nod before long and could possibly be involved in next week’s Capital One Cup tie at Sunderland.

“All I can say to City fans is that I want to get people out of their seats and take people on,” said the 18-year old. “I love attacking, running at players and being positive.

“It’s funny because I’ve met a few supporters lately as I leave the training ground and there’s some young kids who have asked for my autograph – it’s all new to me and that was me ten years ago. It’s nice, though. I hope I get the chance to entertain them for many years to come.”

Roberts admits he is still pinching himself that he’s signed for City and is training with some of the best players in the world, including one of his idols in David Silva.

“The lads have all been great and have helped me settle in quickly,” he said. “I flew out to Australia with Fabian Delph just after we’d both signed and we spoke a lot along the way.

“Fabian is a fantastic lad and I really get on with him well. He looks out for me and we sit next to each other in the changing rooms so it was good to get to know someone like that so quickly.

As for being part of this squad, I’ve said for a few years how much I admire David Silva so to be able to train with him and learn from him each day is incredible

“He’s an exceptional talent and I dream to be like him one day. He’s one of the most humble people you could meet as well and he’s always talking to me, giving me advice. He’s a great guy.

“The boss has told me by training with the likes of David and everyone else I will keep improving and I need to work hard and my chance will come – then it’s up to me to take the opportunity.”
