The Blues prepared for the visit of the Spanish giants with a convincing 4-0 win over Stoke City – a performance which included a brace and the man of the match award for the young Nigerian.
City are in sparkling form, having won five of their last seven matches in all competitions, and Iheanacho believes the victory over the Potters has primed the side for Tuesday’s clash.
He said: “It was a great performance for everybody. It was a big match because we need to stay in the top four and United are behind us so we needed three points. The manager trusted me in the game so I’m really pleased to play.
“This game was great preparation for us before we play Real Madrid. On Tuesday, we need to focus and work hard because they’re a good side. We are prepared to face them.”
The 19-year-old has called on his teammates to rise to the occasion on Tuesday to give the Blues a lead to take to the Spanish capital.
“The Champions League is a big tournament so we need to focus and get the mood ready and get everything right to play,” Kelechi asserted, “We must work hard and concentrate on every ball.
“We really need to win here because at their home it’s not going to be an easy game.
“It’s a great achievement for the club to be in the last four of the tournament but it would be a dream to get to the final so we’re really hoping for that.”
The young striker has linked up excellently with Sergio Aguero in his first season as part of the senior squad and he expects that to continue when given the chance to play throughout the remainder of the season.
He said: “I’m very pleased to play with Sergio. It’s a big thing so I’m really happy and looking forward to playing with him in the future.
“I really need to work hard every game and every training. Every time I’m in I really need to show character and show that I deserve to be in the team so I really work hard until the end.”
