City are learning to be “aggressive without the ball”, according to boss Pep Guardiola.

Speaking at his press conference in Gothenburg ahead of the friendly with Arsenal, Guardiola eulogised about the work his players have put in during his first pre-season as City manager.

He said: “I am very pleased with our pre-season and very, very pleased with the behaviour of all of our players.

“With my team we speak and we train, we help each other to see if we can press and build up from the goalkeeper.

“We have to try to help each other and go forward and be aggressive without the ball. I like to see the fight when we don’t have the ball because without that we can’t win anything.

“To know the players, you have to live with them, every day in training. Eat with them and talk to them. I think in terms of spirit and character we will be a real team and that’s what I want.”

In terms of City’s final warm-up match, Pep has played down the importance of the result - insisting the match is about ensuring his squad are prepared for the challenges ahead.

“Mikel [Arteta] knows Arsene and Arsenal’s players. I played many times against Arsenal, so I know them pretty well and maybe Mikel knows better than me, but we know!

“Tomorrow will be information for me about what our level is and then we will have to make preparations and adjust for next week.”

New signing Leroy Sane has not travelled to Sweden with the squad due to a slight problem with his hamstring but Pep is excited to start working with the 19-year-old.

“Sane can play in five positions, he’s a young player, he’s fast. I am going to try to help him a lot to show his quality,” he said.

Finally, the manager revealed he plans to enjoy his surroundings during City’s short stay in Scandinavia.

“It’s the first time in my life I have been here. I like these countries and the way of life. It’s very different to Latin countries like mine. I will try to take a beer outside later maybe!”
