Season so far

Napoli sit fifth in Serie A, eight points adrift of leaders Juventus. They have won eight of their 15 matches so far, and manager Maurizio Sarri will be keen to his side rediscover their form of last season that saw them finish second ahead of the likes of Roma, Inter Milan and Fiorentina.

They qualified comfortably from Group B, finishing top of a group containing Benfica, Besiktas and Dynamo Kiev. However, they only managed one win at home – a 4-2 victory over Benfica – with Besiktas, who ended up third, winning at 3-2 at the Stadio San Paolo.

Previous meetings

The two sides have locked horns twice – in the 2011/12 group stage campaign.

Aleks Kolarov cancelled out Edinson Cavani’s opener in the Etihad Stadium encounter, but the Uruguayan striker’s brace at the Stadio San Paolo would clinch a 2-1 win in Italy. Mario Balotelli scored for City that day.
