City will learn their fate as group runners-up to Barcelona when the draw takes place at approximately 11am on Monday 12 December, though the 1-1 draw with Celtic had no effect on the final standing.
“I’m very happy we have qualified from a very tough group that included some excellent teams,” said Pep. “To have progressed to the next stage from a group that included Barcelona, Celtic and Borussia Monchengladbach is fantastic because we are still relatively new to this competition and these are experienced, top clubs.
“We have to win respect in the Champions League and also earn respect from other clubs and we will look forward to the draw on Monday.
“I’m so happy, we played really well - the experienced players like Pablo, Bacary and Nolito helped the younger players and it was a really good game and a pleasure to play against Celtic. It was a good game, I’m happy and there were many chances to score so I’m pleased about that, too.”
City’s on-loan winger Patrick Roberts scored Celtic’s opening goals and Pep added: “We know his quality, he worked really hard and defended well and I’m so happy for him. We are trying to help him by allowing him the chance to play every week, which is important, and the loan is working well for both clubs.”
