With a glut of high-profile matches coming up for the Blues, Ferna says it would be easy to look further ahead – but by doing so, the team could lose focus.
The Brazilian adds there is also still a long way to go as City bid for silverware this campaign.
“It is nice to be involved in all four competitions in February but there’s still a few months to go to finish the season,” said Fernandinho.
“For me personally, however, I think it is important to think just about the next game. Our next game is Chelsea away in the FA Cup, after that we have Champions League before the League Cup final so I hope we can do well in three competitions.
“After that we have Premier League and I hope we can return to winning ways after two defeats at home.
“I think it is better to take one at a time. The FA Cup is a very important competition. It is very good to be involved in four competitions but it is more important to just think about Chelsea now and prepare.
“We have had the whole week to prepare very well for the game. I hope we can play that game very well against a good team. They have a chance to demonstrate what a strong team they are and so I think it’s going to be a great game.”
City have already beaten Chelsea 3-0 earlier this season – a game the Blues’ midfielder remembers well after he opened his account with a superb second-half goal.
He said: “I was so glad in that moment to score. It was a beautiful goal and an important goal against a good team. But now is a different time. We have had a chance to prepare for the game and we’ll wait for the manager to decide who plays in this game but I am sure it will be a great match.
“I think the FA Cup is a great competition. We cannot make any mistakes so our level of concentration must be high on Sunday.
“That’s good because you can prepare better for the game and start the game really well. After I joined City I learned more about the FA Cup.
“It is a very important competition for the whole country – for all the teams. It involves a lot of teams where small teams will try to beat big teams and it is very nice for the fans as well.
“The emotion is very high for everyone. It is very important to be a champion. I have played twice in this competition and didn’t win, but this time I have a chance to move forwards.
“Since the start of the season we have spoken about winning the title, to go as far as we can in the Champions League and to try and win the two cups.
“We have the chance to do all those things. It’s very important to be involved in the highest level of the Champions League, the FA Cup and to be in the League Cup final and to try and win the Premier League.
“We are three months from the end of the season and we are involved in all four competitions. This is important for me, for the club and for the manager of course.”
