Taking a look back to see what happened on this day in City history...

1953

We first look back to a division 1 home win against Newcastle United that took place on this day 63 years ago.

City won 2-1 with Ronnie Phoenix and Jimmy Meadows scoring the goals to ensure all three points stayed in Manchester.

1996

Manchester City ran out 2-1 winners in a FA cup fourth round replay against Coventry City on this day in 1996.

Niall Quinn and Nigel Clough were on the score sheet as City went through to the fifth round after the initial 2-2 draw at Highfield Road. A goal from Uwe Rosler was not enough in the following tie as the Blues bowed out 2-1 away to Manchester United.

2004

It was the FA Cup and City were playing Manchester United away. City had earned their place in the fifth round after coming from 3-0 down in the previous round to beat Tottenham 4-3 in an incredible comeback.

However, on the day, United were to produce a spirited display to move into a 3-0 lead in the 77th minute after playing with ten men for over 45 minutes.

City pulled one back but United quickly made it 4-1 to put the comeback out of question. The Blues managed to get another back with Robbie Fowler scoring a quick free-kick but despite a couple of good chances for Antoine Sibierski late on, United ran out 4-2 winners.
