February 29, as you would expect, has been a very quiet day for City over the years with only two games played. Saying that, we are undefeated with one win and one draw!
Here’s the facts and figures...
1964
On this day in 1964 City visited Middlesbrough in the Second Division. It was a mediocre season for the Blues who found themselves in 12th position and with little to play for heading into the final stage of the season.
The Ayresome Park faithful witnessed a 2-2 draw as goals from Matt Gray and Derek Kevan ensured that City would be leaving with a point.
Kevan played two seasons for City and scored 56 goals in 76 appearances before moving to Crystal Palace. Here’s a picture of Kevan whilst on England duty, heading the ball goal-wards.
1992
On this day 24 years ago City played Aston Villa at home in the First Division seeking to win the title with little over ten games remaining.
Goals from Niall Quinn and David White gave the Blues a 2-0 win and third place in the table.
City eventually finished the season in fifth place having been unable to keep up with Leeds United at the top of the table.
