Fernando believes an improvement in away form could see City mount a serious challenge for the quadruple.

The Blues have already booked their spot in the Capital One Cup final with the hopes of Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League titles also still very much alive.

The Brazilian, who has made 22 appearances this season, admits the form of Manuel Pellegrini’s men on the road has left much to be desired, but asserts his side have the quality and squad depth to lift multiple trophies.

“Every game in England is very tough but especially away because the opposition always comes in strong from the start,” he declared.

“The focus for us will be to improve our away performance and come out with a victory.

“I haven’t seen a specific difference in terms of the away matches. I think the difference last season was that we weren’t necessarily winning at home as much, whereas this season even though we might not be getting all the points from away matches we’re performing really well at home.

“So we need to improve our performance away from home. If we improve our performance away and don’t concede as many goals I think that will help us win the title.

“We have a great team and all the players are focused so I do believe we have a chance of winning all four trophies.

“We have to aim high and work towards that goal. We’ve had a few injuries but have managed to overcome these injuries with players coming off the bench.

“The team has a great squad so moving forwards we’ll be able to cope with the injuries with the amazing squad that we have.”

City’s next away clash - a trip to Sunderland on Tuesday night - sees Pellegrini’s men pit their wits against another side fighting relegation.

With the Blues full of confidence following successive cup victories, the midfielder insisted the visitors must display the same level of performance to build a strong run.

“Sunderland have been in a tough moment this season being further down the table,” he stated. “But they have been improving their performance of late and so it will be a difficult game, especially with it being away.

“What we have to do is make sure we come out with the victory and show our best performance.

“All the games are important now so if we want to win the league title we have to see each game as a battle that we need to win.

“Of course these upcoming matches are the ones we’re focusing on for the Premier League and if we want to win the league we’ll have to beat them.

“The Leicester fixture will also be an important game because they are at the top of the league. It will be a great opportunity to overcome them and get back to first position.”

On the subject of the upcoming visit League Cup final, Fernando expressed his excitement at the prospect of a visit to Wembley and of locking horns with some familiar faces.

Asked of his thoughts on Liverpool’s strengths, and compatriots Firmino and Coutinho, he said: “They are a very confident team full of great players.

“We know it’s not going to be an easy match but it is an opportunity to show our potential and our strengths and once again come away with the trophy against such a big team.

“Those two players are definitely great players. Firmino is going through a great phase and we don’t even need to speak about Coutinho because we know the sort of player he is!

“We also have great players though and so we think it will be a great match.

“It was a hard game [against Everton] but the chance to play a final at Wembley will be fantastic.

“When I played there in the Community Shield it was a very special match. It was my first game here but unfortunately we couldn’t come out with the trophy.

“Hopefully when we get back to Wembley we’ll have a chance of winning. It’s definitely a unique opportunity. Everyone is very dedicated to the opportunity of winning this trophy.

“We know there are other cups and titles that we are looking to win but everyone is very focused and determined to come away with the trophy.

“It will be very important because it will give us the confidence for the rest of the season.

“If we do win this trophy we believe we’ll be even more confident in the run up to the other titles and trophies.”

When asked how significant the absence of Kevin De Bruyne could be over the coming months, Fernando replied: “Kevin is definitely a great player and so we will miss him.

“However we have other great players who can replace him even if he is a great player. We still think we will have a great team.”
