Although replays showed that Raheem Sterling ran the ball out of play before teeing up Kevin De Bruyne for the decisive second goal, the Chilean thinks his side were good value for the victory.
Pellegrini feels as though focusing on this one incident would be misleading as decisions went against City in the first leg too.
“I am very happy, to play a final at Wembley, it is very important,” he declared.
“It’s a special stadium with a special atmosphere. When you have two teams like City and Liverpool playing a final, it’s even more special.
“We scored 18 or 19 goals in this tournament – we lost just one game against Everton but it was a game of 180 minutes and I think we played this semi-final in an intelligent way.
“I just saw it [the Sterling incident] – maybe it was a mistake of the referee but one thing Everton cannot complain about is the referee. We lost the first game to a clear offside goal and we didn’t get a clear penalty for a foul on Jesus Navas.
“We drew in the Premier League when a clear penalty wasn’t given for the foul on Raheem Sterling. We were the best team on this night and we deserve to be in the final.”
The one sour note on the night was the injury sustained to Kevin De Bruyne late in the game.
Manuel confirmed that it looked like a serious injury for the Belgian who turned the game in City’s favour when he came on, but is hopeful that it won’t be the last we’ll see of Kevin this season.
Pellegrini said: “The doctor thinks, but he cannot be sure, that it’s a problem in his medial ligament. We’ll see how it is but it’s impossible to know before tomorrow.
“I’m optimistic he won’t be out for the rest of the season. We’ll see how important the damage is. It’s not the cruciate ligament, it’s the medial we think.
“Kevin has been a very important player all season. He didn’t start this game as we have nine games between now and next month.
“It is difficult to know. He is with the doctor, it could be the medial ligament. Tomorrow we will have more news but it is not a nice injury.”
