With Arsenal travelling to Liverpool and Leicester again facing Tottenham in midweek, a win against Everton this Wednesday could see City reclaim top spot.
With Crystal Palace to come on Saturday, Sterling is targeting six points in four days to keep the Blues’ title aspirations firmly on track.
“I think you always need to make sure you’re hard to beat at home,” said Sterling.
“Away from home you need to make sure you win the difficult nights away at Stoke and places like that because those are the games where you can slip-up and the dropped points all add up and can cost you at the end of the season.
“We didn’t win away for quite a few games on the bounce but we’ve been improving and hopefully that will continue to improve as we go along.”
It is City’s second of three games against Everton in the space of three weeks and the England star admitted playing the same team so many times in such a short space of time is a new experience.
“I’ve never come up against the same team as often as this and it is a pretty quick turnaround,” he said, “but I didn’t play in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg last week so I obviously hope to be involved this time.
“We know this is an opportunity for us but we just need to focus on what we need to do to win the Premier League and not worry about other teams and what they’re doing.
“That way, we don’t let anything affect our thinking and purely focus on our own performance. We’ve played a lot of away games over the past fortnight so we’re looking forward to playing in front of our own fans again on Wednesday.”
