While not the worst result in the world, Delph believes the Blues did more than enough to win the match and was disappointed the referee didn’t award an injury time spot-kick.
Now the England midfielder says the squad’s focus is ensuring there is no repeat against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
“I felt we’d done enough to win the game and I think it’s a pretty fair shout to say we should have been awarded a penalty as well,” said Delph.
“Yaya had a good chance but the keeper made a great save but overall, we created enough chances to have taken all the points but if you can’t win, you have to make sure you don’t lose. We took a point out of it and now we move on to the next game.
“Palace are a good team with some very athletic players so we’ll be in for a tough afternoon, but with the quality we have here, I don’t think any poses a threat to us at home. We can eliminate their strengths and then use our own strengths to win the game.”
Delph is hoping to feature against Alan Pardew’s side with so many games in January meaning fresh legs will be needed this weekend.
Manuel Pellegrini has hinted he will shuffle his pack in the coming weeks and Delph is likely to play some part of the game against Palace.
“I hope to be involved as much as possible and I’m always ready to play when needed or called upon,” said Delph.
“You’ll get nothing less than 100% from me and I’m certain the same goes for the other lads.
“It’s important to have a good squad and we’ve got a great one so rotation at this time of year probably makes more sense than using the same players week in, week out.
“It’s been a strange season so far regarding the points the leading teams have got on the scoreboard so far. Every week teams around us seem to be dropping points at the same time we do so as long as it stays like that or we put the points on the board and they don’t, it will eventually work in our favour.”
Delph has proved to be a popular figure among the City supporters, despite only starting three games this season.
His whole-hearted, committed style means the Blues fans have quickly formed a bond with the former Leeds United and Aston Villa star,
“I feel quite a strong connection with the fans,” he said. “I had a horrific start to my time here and it’s obviously not good to come to a club and then be out injured for so long but as soon as I managed to get fit, the supporters have been unbelievable with me.
“I’ve tried to repay that by giving 100% whenever I start or come off the bench because they deserve nothing less.
“I’m an English player and I understand what fans in this country like to see – they want to see total dedication, players wearing their heart on their sleeves and giving everything they’ve got and that’s all I’ve tried to do.
“I try to play like they would if they had the opportunity. I’m a football fan myself and to go out there and give a half-hearted performance wouldn’t sit right with me.”
