Looking back through the events and memorable matches that happened on this day in City's history...

23 January has not been a popular day for City games in time gone by with just five games being played on this day.

Two of them defeats so the less said about them the better, so without further ado...

1954

This was the first ever City game to be played on the 23 January and it resulted in three points for the Blues. Don Revie (pictured), Harry Anders and Royston James Clarke were all on target as City beat Cardiff 3-0 at Ninian Park.

1993

The one and only FA Cup tie to be played on this date, City enjoyed a 2-1 win against QPR in the Fourth Round on this day 23 years ago. Ian Holloway was the goal scorer for QPR that day, but it was City who came out on top thanks to goals from Michel Vonk (pictured) and David White. City would go on to reach the Quarter Final of the 1992/93 FA Cup, where they lost 4-2 to Spurs at Maine Road.

1999

City last played on the 23 January 17 years ago when they visited Walsall in what is now known as League One. Andy Watson had opened the scoring for Walsall in the 67th minute as the Bescot Stadium before City fought back and got a equaliser through Jamie Pollock with 16 minutes to go.
