On the day Pep Guardiola was introduced to our fans, five lucky Cityzens got to have their own surprise audience with City’s new boss under the guise of a ride in ‘Chappy’s Taxi.’ – Chappy being Les Chapman, City’s former Kit Manager-turned-City TV presenter.
As far as the Cityzens were concerned, they’d each be collected by Chappy at one of five iconic Manchester locations and then be driven in style to the Cityzens Weekend at the City Football Academy.
Once in the cab, they’d be filmed and chat with Chappy on the journey – however, before he picked up any of the Cityzens, Chappy collected Pep Guardiola who would be waiting in the cab as it collected each passenger.
Seven year-old Braydon Bent entered the taxi first and looked at Pep before asking, “Is it really you?” Braydon then asks Chappy, “Is it really him? Pep Guardiola? Oh my God!”
What happens next is pure gold as Braydon asks Pep to sign Lionel Messi plus where he is going to put all the trophies he is going to win at City!
Totally enraptured by the youngster, Pep laughs, chats and even accepts an invite for dinner at Braydon’s house because, as he says, “you’ve not got many friends in Manchester!”
Charming, funny and the most honest off the cuff interview you’re likely to see, Pep calls Braydon a genius and few will disagree.
If you only watch one video this year, make sure it’s this one…
An Inside City special of Pep’s Taxi will be released on mancity.com next Wednesday – Braydon’s journey is live on the site from 8am Friday 22 July.
