Kelechi Iheanacho is hoping to play against Aston Villa on Saturday having scored a hat-trick against the same opposition in January.

The 19 year-old striker collected the match-ball after the Blues’ 4-0 FA Cup win at Villa Park and is hoping to feature against the Premier League’s bottom club once again.

“It’s definitely one of my favourite performances of the season, scoring three goals and assisting another,” recalled Kelechi.

“I think it’s good to play a side you’ve done well against previously because it gives you added confidence so I hope to be involved this time as well.

“Beating Villa is an absolute must for us now and we then need to back it up with three or four more wins on the bounce.

“We know we have to get back on track starting on Saturday because there are still plenty of games to go and 33 points to be won.”

Iheanacho admits he is surprised by Villa’s plight, but while they have been written off by most pundits as relegation certainties, the City striker says they can still survive the drop.

“They have good players and yet they are bottom of the table,” he said. “I expected them to do better this season.

“The Premier League has been very unpredictable this season and anything is still possible – they would need to win a lot of games but it is not impossible that they could stay up. Anything can happen in football.

“But we can’t worry about their situation – we just need to beat them and then do the same at Norwich next weekend.

“We have to look at it that these are two games we have to win – if we take three points this week and another three next week, it will give us the perfect platform for the remaining games.

“Everyone is working really hard in training and I think we will come back strongly in the last few months of the season.”
