City may got the point needed against Swansea to virtually assure Champions League football, but Joe Hart feels the players had a disappointing end to the campaign.

The England goalkeeper says securing fourth place was the goal this afternoon, but overall the squad have not hit the heights expected of them.

“It’s hard to be too positive after that, but if you class the job being done for finishing fourth then we did what we had to - but we know we’ve let ourselves down this season,” said Hart.

“We needed a point to finish in the top four and we’ve got that so it doesn’t matter how you do it so long as you do.

“The beauty of football is that we have a chance to do it all again next season, but the truth is after being in a good position, we’ve not finished the season well in the league and it is as simple as that.

“The positives we take from this year are that we reached the Champions League semi-final - which is progress - and we’ve also won a cup – now we’ll come back again after the summer and have another go.”

Hart admitted the players wanted to give Manuel Pellegrini a good send-off adding: “We are professionals and we wanted to do well for Manuel. We’ve enjoyed working with him and I’m sure the fans have enjoyed his time here, too.”
