The England midfielder has played just 30 times for the Blues since joining from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015 and made only three appearances so far this campaign.
Now, having recently undergone surgery, he is rapidly closing in on a return and is targeting the end of the month to be available for selection.
“It has been a frustrating time for me,” admitted Delph.
“Since I’ve been here I haven’t really been able to get going from an injury point of view, but I’m lucky that I have a great medical team looking after me at City, good friends in the squad who’ve kept me going – especially Gael Clichy who has kept me motivated throughout - and I’m not too far away, now.
“I had an operation a month ago and I’m probably a fortnight away from being fit so I’m excited about getting back in training and being among the lads again.
“The tendons in my groin were pulling against the bone and it’s an issue I’ve had for about eight months. It’s been hampering me quite a bit and it got to a stage where it was better to resolve it rather than play on.
“We tried rehab but it ended with an operation that involves cutting the tendons away and that seems to have solved the problem.”
When asked if watching City beat Barcelona from the stands was difficult he said: “No it wasn’t hard – it was very pleasing for me because I was kicking every ball with them, feeling every challenge and celebrating every goal and it was a great moment for me because I was in the dressing room before and afterwards and I felt very much involved in everything.
“I’m doing fantastic and I’m way ahead of schedule and ready to kick on and get my season really up and running.”
