City defender John Stones took part in an individual recovery session at England’s St George’s Park on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old was one of nine players who sat out of full training with Gareth Southgate’s squad and instead underwent an individually-tailored gym programme designed by England’s medical staff.

Suggestions the City star had suffered an injury were wide of the mark - and he looks set to add to his 13 caps when England take on Scotland in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley this Friday.

Having been an unused substitute in all of England’s games at this summer’s European Championships, he has started each of their three World Cup qualifiers this season.

Stones has made a fine start to life at City after signing for the club from Everton in the summer, immediately becoming a regular in Pep Guardiola’s team and impressing with his ball-playing ability and desire to bring the ball out from the back.
