Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts helped his adopted Celtic side to victory in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.

Roberts, who is in his second season on loan at Celtic Park, played the first 65 minutes as Celtic ran out 3-0 winners over Aberdeen to lift the trophy at a capacity Hampden Park.

The England youth international started on the right wing for Brendan Rodgers’ side and proved a thorn in Aberdeen’s side as they struggled to contain the Bhoys.

Elsewhere, it was something of a breakthrough weekend for Oleksandr Zinchenko at PSV Eindhoven as he played the full 90 minutes and starred as the Dutch champions beat ADO Den Haag 3-1.

Playing in a creative midfield role, the Ukraine international even assisted the third goal with an excellently weighted pass for striker Luuk De Jong.

The FC Twente of Enes Unal, Bersant Celina and Yaw Yeboah fell to a 3-2 defeat at NEC Nijmegen but Unal scored for the Enschede side.

The Turkish striker reacted quickest after the ball rebounded in the box but it wasn’t enough to inspire his side to victory.

Dropping down a division, both Ashley Smith-Brown and David Faupala started in NAC Breda’s 3-1 loss to Cambuur with Faupala scoring their side’s only goal. Brandon Barker was not involved.

In Italy, Joe Hart played the full match at Turin’s Olympic Stadium as Torino beat Chievo 2-1 to keep pressure on the Champions League places in Serie A. Olivier Ntcham remained on the bench as Genoa beat reigning champions Juventus 3-1.

In Spain, Samir Nasri is unavailable for Sevilla due to injury but Marlos Moreno did play 90 minutes for Deportivo La Coruna in their 4-3 loss to Malaga. Eliaquim Mangala’s Valencia continued their poor form with a 2-1 loss to Sevilla and they now sit just two points above the relegation zone.

Manu Garcia was not involved for Deportivo Alaves in their historic win at Villarreal’s El Madrigal.

Back to England and another midfield showing for Jason Denayer. The Belgian played a shielding role for David Moyes’ Sunderland at Anfield and helped his side to contain Jurgen Klopp’s in-form men until late in to the second half.

Wilfried Bony was an unused substitute for Stoke City at Watford while Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield face Wigan Athletic on Monday night.

Jack Byrne was not involved for Blackburn Rovers while Kean Bryan remains injured at Bury.
