The 45-year-old, currently in Germany preparing for Wednesday’s night’s Champions League game against Borussia Monchengladbach, says he has been impressed by the level of support he has been given by club staff since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
And although he admits City still have plenty of improving to do before they reach the level he expects, he says they have made a good start given the team’s packed schedule in the early stages of the season.
“I am so happy here,” Guardiola said. “I am delighted how the people take care of me in the club, how they support me. I am delighted to work with these guys, with these players, and I want to make the step forwards and forwards.
“We are far away in the way we play sometimes to win the titles but I never expected in November in my first year, new league, new players, to play amazing, or to play a solid way for a long time.
“We play a lot of games. We played the Champions League qualifier, we play for example, when this round finishes, eight games in the Champions League more than Liverpool and Chelsea.
“It means a lot for the day after, for the game after, for many, many things. It is why we need time to achieve and hopefully we are able to go to the next game, we will arrive in February, March and April, the team will be better and better and better to of course to fight for the Premier League and of course in Europe, if we are able to take one point tomorrow.”
Asked how long he will stay at the club, Guardiola said much depends on how satisfied the club’s directors are with the performance of the team.
“I don’t know [how long I will stay at City],” he said. “Always it depends how satisfied the club is with me, how satisfied is the fans, the chairman, the people, because I know exactly if they are satisfied or not.
“After that it’s my impression, my feelings, if I am tired or not, if I am still willing to fight with this club.”
