David Silva‘s equaliser at Borussia-Park ensured City’s passage and here are all the details you will need as we move forward.
Group C situation
City are guaranteed to finish second in the Champions League Group C. Pep Guardiola’s side have eight points from five matches with just the home tie with Celtic to come.
Leaders Barcelona have 12 points and therefore can’t be caught by the Blues whereas Borussia Monchengladbach have five points. However, due to Man City’s superior head-to-head record after the 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium, the German club cannot finish above Pep’s men.
When is the draw?
The draw for the round of 16 will take place on Monday 12 December 2016.
We will have full coverage and reaction from the draw on mancity.com...
When will the ties take place?
The first leg will be held one of four dates - 14/15 February or 21/ 22 February 2017.
The second legs are scheduled to be played across the dates of 7/8/ March or 14/15 March 2017.
Who could City get?
As City are guaranteed to finish second, they can only face a group winners excluding Barcelona and any domestic rivals that top their group - Leicester or Arsenal.
From Group A, both PSG and Arsenal have qualified but City could only face the French champions if they top the group on the final day.
Any one of three clubs could still finish top of Group B. Benfica, Napoli and Besiktas could all be facing Pep’s men come February.
Atletico Madrid are guaranteed to win Group D. Having beaten Bayern Munich to the top spot, they will be one of the most difficult ties City could face - but then again the Blues won’t face Bayern in the next round!
AS Monaco have already won Group E and therefore could also face City.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are still locked in a tussle for top spot in Group F while the same is happening between Juventus and Sevilla in Group H.
So plenty to still be decided in what is shaping up to be a fascinating competition.
