It was a mixed night for City's international stars as the World Cup qualifiers continued on Tuesday night.

John Stones played the full 90 minutes as England laboured to a 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

The City defender put in a typically composed showing and attempted to carry the ball forward in an even match in Ljubljana.

Joe Hart, on loan at Torino, put in an excellent performance in the England goal to keep a clean sheet.

Gareth Southgate’s team now have seven points from three games in their qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

A year to the day since his last start for the world champions, Ilkay Gundogan came on as a half-time substitute for Germany as they beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in Hannover.

Earlier in the day Leroy Sane‘s Germany U21 side ran out 4-1 winners over neighbours Austria to end their U21 Euro 2017 qualifying campaign unbeaten. Sane will now be eligible for the tournament in Poland next June.

Billy O’Brien was an unused substitute for Wales U21s’ victory 3-1 over Armenia

Javairo Dilrosun‘s early goal gave his Netherlands U19 side a 1-0 victory over Kjetil Haug‘s Norway in qualifying for next summer’s U19 European Championship. Rodney Kongolo was a late substitute for the Dutch.

Several South American qualifiers will take place overnight. Argentina v Paraguay will not feature Nicolas Otamendi or Pablo Zabaleta as both are suspended but Sergio Aguero may be fit enough to start for his country.

Meanwhile, Claudio Bravo‘s Chile face Peru and Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho may feature as Brazil travel to Venezuela.
