The weekend triumph over the Cherries beat a 118-year record set by Sam Ormerod’s City side who then called Hyde Road their home.
The Blues began 1897/98 with seven victories before being held 1-1 by Newton Heath – soon to be renamed Manchester United – before tailing off somewhat.
All seven wins came in Division Two, but despite the flying start, City still missed out on promotion, finishing in third spot after winning just three of the final dozen matches.
Pep Guardiola’s City have won all eight of their first eight matches and will go in search of a ninth win on the bounce at Swansea City on Wednesday.
So far, the Blues have won five Premier League games – already a Club record and the best start to a season by any City manager – and have also won three Champions League games; two in qualifying for the group stages and one against Borussia Monchengladbach in the opening Group C tie.
City now need three victories to equal the best ever winning Club sequence which was set in 2015 when Manuel Pellegrini oversaw 11 successive wins - all Premier League - to set a new record between the end of 2014/15 and the start of 2015/16.
The Blues would need to beat Swansea twice with back-to-back victories at The Liberty Stadium and then beat Celtic at Parkhead to match the record and then attempt to set a new milestone in the twelfth game away to Tottenham – quite an ask, even for a team playing the kind of football City have been.
As previously reported, Guardiola bettered the starts of all 43 managers who preceded him in the City hot-seat when he recorded his fifth win of the season against West Ham United and there are plenty more historical targets on the horizon.
The goals have been flying in, too – so far City have scored 25 goals in the first eight matches in all competitions, equalling the previous best of 25 in eight starts set in 1950/51 by Les McDowall’s side who went on to finish runners-up in Division Two and win promotion back to the top flight.
So a fantastic start to the campaign, but no doubt Pep will be warning his side the campaign has only just begun…
