Fit-again Ilkay Gundogan’s fine performances for City have earned the midfielder a recall to the Germany national team.

The 25-year-old is in Joachim Low’s squad to face the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland in World Cup qualifying games next week.

Gundogan tweeted: “Back in the @DFB_Team #StepByStep #VeryHappy #NeverLoseFocus #RoadtoRussia.”

Gundogan made his City debut in the 4-0 Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach after almost five months out with a knee injury, but has slotted seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s side.

He capped his second appearance for the Blues with a goal against Bournemouth, and he is now in line to make his first Germany appearance since the defeat in France in November last year.
