Down in the Scottish Championship, Billy O’Brien’s St Mirren were defeated 3-2 by play-off side Dundee United. O’Brien’s team sit in ninth with two matches left to avoid relegation.
Over in Italy, Joe Hart’s Torino registered an impressive 3-1 win at fellow mid-table side Chievo. Olivier Ntcham played the full 90 minutes as his Genoa side were beaten 4-0 by Champions League semi-finalists Juventus.
Bruno Zuculini was an effective presence in Hellas Verona’s midfield and even scored his sides’ second goal of the afternoon as they won at Bari 1908. The Argentinian midfielder was on hand late in the match to scoop home after a scramble in the box.
In the Netherlands, Enes Unal played the full match in Twente’s 2-1 defeat to AZ while Bersant Celina and Yaw Yeboah were both substituted during the second half.
Oleksandr Zinchenko was an unused substitute as PSV overcame title rivals Ajax.
Manu Garcia and James Horsfield continued to be regulars for play-off chasing second tier side NAC Breda during their goalless draw with Emmen. Thomas Agyepong came on late in the match while Ash Smith-Brown stayed on the bench for Breda who sit just one point outside of the top five.
In Spain’s top flight, Eliaquim Mangala played the full match for Valencia as they fell to a 2-0 loss to Malaga. Samir Nasri didn’t feature for Sevilla in their 2-0 success over Granada.
Dropping down a division, Angelino came on during the second half for Mallorca in their 1-1 draw with fellow relegation battlers Cordoba.
Back to England now, Jason Denayer’s Sunderland had the weekend off but will travel to Middlesbrough for a must-win Premier League match on Wednesday.
Aaron Mooy was one of Huddersfield’s few standout performers as they fell to a 4-1 defeat against fellow Championship play-off hopefuls Fulham.
In the third tier, David Faupala was a second half substitute for already relegated Chesterfield in their 2-1 loss to Charlton.
