Raheem Sterling has called on his Manchester City teammates to put their opponents to the sword in the closing stages of the Premier League season.

City have been held by Liverpool and Stoke in their last two Premier League matches and Sterling believes the Blues will have to improve in front of goal if they are to achieve their objectives.

He said: “They’re games that we could have won if we’d been a bit more clinical, a bit more cute with our play. But that’s football at the end of the day.

“We just have to make sure that we’re sharp enough over the next couple of weeks because it’s going to be a vital run in to the end of the season.”

City begin a testing week at Arsenal on Sunday before travelling to Chelsea next Wednesday.

Having defeated the Gunners in the exhilarating reverse fixture in December, City will head in to the top six clash full of confidence. Sterling expects Sunday’s match to capture the imagination of fans too.

“I’m hoping for it to be a really exciting fixture, an end-to-end one. Similar to the Liverpool game but hopefully with us winning. Against Arsenal they’re always good games and there are always goals so I don’t expect that to be any different this weekend,” said the 22-year-old.

“I love playing against Arsenal, it’s always been a thing for me, even when I was younger. Going away to their training ground was always a massive day for me because I like their style of play. Hopefully it will be another good day.”

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners have won just one of their last five matches in the Premier League but the England winger knows the quality they possess.

He said: “It’s been kind of difficult for them more recently but with the kind of players they have and the manager they have, at any moment they can start winning games again and go on a good run.

“We can’t think because they’ve been on a bad run that we’re going to win the game. We know it’s not going to be that simple because of the players they have in their team. We have to make sure we’re at the top of our game.”
