Manchester City will learn who they will face in their opening fixture of this year’s League Cup on Thursday morning.

Rebranded as the Carabao Cup, the Blues will enter at the third round stage by virtue of their Champions League involvement and here’s everything you need to know to follow the draw…

When

The draw for the third round is set for Thursday 24 August at 4.15am (BST).

Where

Location is the reason for such an early start, with this year’s draw taking place in Beijing, China, when the 32 remaining teams will find out who they face in the next round.

Follow

For those of you wanting to learn our third round opponents immediately, we’ll bring you the draw as it happens on Twitter and here on mancity.com.

Potential opponents

As the draw is unseeded, the Blues could potentially face a team from any of the four divisions in the English Football League.

League 2 Cheltenham Town are currently the lowest ranked side left in the competition – they play West Ham tonight, while at the other end of the pyramid, the rest of last season’s Premier League top seven all enter the competition at the same stage as City.

Dates

There’s a while until our opening Carabao Cup fixture, with the third round scheduled for the week commencing 18 September. Dates and kick off time to be confirmed.

Draw numbers

Six second round ties are to be played this evening – 23 August – after which teams will be allocated a ball number for the third round draw, which we’ll reveal as and when we have it.
