De Bruyne, who today marked the second anniversary of his move to the Club from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, has started the new season in sparkling form.
And the Belgian midfielder says that he is eager to build on what has been a superb first two years at the Etihad and play his part in helping Pep Guardiola’s side achieve success this season.
“Pep just wants me to do as much as possible this season – but he hasn’t really been specific about one aspect,” said the 26-year-old.
“I just tried to have a good pre-season. It was a long time and a decent pre-season and I think that I look sharp and fresh and I’m just trying to do my thing.”
Having established a formidable reputation as one of the Premier League’s most creative players – De Bruyne created more assists than anybody else in the Premier League last term, laying on 18 goals for his colleagues – KDB and his colleagues are expecting to find themselves under even greater scrutiny this term.
But De Bruyne insists he and his colleagues will not allow their focus to be deflected when City return to action at home to Liverpool a week on Saturday following the current international break.
“I know that people are taking a closer look at me and the other players in the midfield and the strikers but that doesn’t matter,” De Bruyne added.
“We just need to win our games, no matter what happens.”
