Benjamin Mendy has trained with his Manchester City team-mates for the first time as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The French defender, signed from Monaco this summer, is yet to make his City debut having arrived carrying a thigh problem but took part in a training session with Pep Guardiola and the rest of the City squad on Monday evening in Catalonia.

Who travelled to Girona?

Mendy spent one season at Monaco after joining last summer from Marseille, helping Leonardo Jardim’s side to the Ligue 1 title and a place in the Champions League semi-finals.

His energy and attacking quality made him one of Europe’s most sought-after full-backs, but it was City who landed him last month during the Club’s pre-season tour of the US.

The Blues are currently enjoying a warm-weather training camp in Catalonia ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Girona, who are newly promoted to La Liga.

The game, which will be played at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, will be Girona’s final pre-season test before their historic debut in the Spanish top flight.

The game kicks off at 6pm (local time, 5pm BST) and will be shown to Cityzens live right here on mancity.com, join Cityzens for free.
