Phil Foden has become the youngest Englishman to start a Champions League game.

The Stockport-born midfielder, who has been at City since the age of nine, was named in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI for the game away at Shakhtar Donetsk.

It means at 17 years 192 days, he overtakes Josh McEachran, who played for Chelsea against Marseille in 2010, on the list of the youngest English players to start a game in Europe’s elite knock-out competition.

He made his City debut as a substitute in the win over Feyenoord last month and was named Player of the Tournament as England won the Under-17 World Cup in October.

Everyone at City would like to congratulate Phil on another significant milestone.
