Goalkeeper Willy Caballero says that "everything changed" for him at Man City after the League Cup final last season.

The spot-kick king of the 2016 Capital One Cup triumph has responded whenever he’s been called upon and he is aiming to give Pep Guardiola a selection headache for as long as possible.

The Argentinian stopper has started the last three games, and been on the winning team three times, thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ last-minute goal against Swansea.

Overall Caballero has been on the winning side 10 times this season in his 12 starts - but that success has been hard earned.

The 35-year-old, keeping Claudio Bravo out of the side at the moment, said: “I tried to focus on the games but I listened and was aware of the criticism in my first year at City, but I learned and worked hard to improve throughout my second year.

“After the Capital One Cup final, everything changed and I felt a lot of affection from the City fans and I’ve really enjoyed it since.

“I speak with Claudio all the time and have given him all the advice I can about the Premier League – the players, the stadiums, the teams and how they play.

“I also told him that my first season her was difficult and not so happy, but because he plays most weeks, it will be different for him game by game.

“He needs to stay confident, work hard and I am sure we will all see the best of Claudio Bravo very soon.”

Speaking after the win over Swansea Caballero added: “I think Pep has always trusted me, from the beginning and throughout the season.

“It was obvious that Claudio is the first choice goalkeeper but now I’ve been given a chance and I’ll try to make the most out of it.

“We feel lucky we won against Swansea at the weekend. We did everything right in the first half but we gave them the chance to equalize - luckily Gabriel Jesus popped up with the winner. It would have been a pity otherwise because we deserved it.

“Gabriel has brought freshness, good movement, quality and goals. He’s helped us a lot since he arrived and he’s doing things right.”
