The Brazilian was suspended for four matches, ruling him out of the games against Everton and Tottenham, as well as two trips to West Ham.
He returned to the starting line-up for the win over Swansea on Sunday and looked as assured as ever, despite playing in an unfamiliar right-back role – something he says he couldn’t have done without the support of the other players in the Blues squad.
“I am very happy to be back, after a long absence period away from the action,” he said. “I am very happy we won a difficult game against Swansea, but even more important than that was the support I received from my colleagues during this period.
“All that support was essential, in order to return in the best possible way.”
The win over Swansea saw Fernandinho start alongside his compatriot Gabriel Jesus for the first time in a City shirt.
BRAZILIAN BLEND: Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus celebrate the teenager’s first goal against Swansea
The 19-year-old has flown out of the blocks since arriving from Palmeiras in January, scoring three goals from three starts and impressing with his all-round quality.
Fernandinho, who has played a crucial role in helping Jesus settle so quickly in Manchester, believes the youngster is equipped with everything he needs to have a long and successful career in the game.
“He has things to learn, but he is starting very well,” he said. “I am very happy that he is progressing well and with confidence.
“The most important thing is that he is being able to score goals. He adjusted very quickly. The English football isn’t as easy, so I honestly hope he continues in this level in order to improve even more.
“I am sure he is a player that will develop a lot more and I am absolutely sure, that he will be a top-class international player.”
